Changing Capabilities During a Call (Q65)

The information in this article applies to:

A terminal shall accept the remote terminal's capability set if it is able to comply with the request, e.g., the set is coherent and the terminal has sufficient capacity to process the request. A terminal shall not reject the remote terminal's capability set merely because it prefers the previous capability set, does not support one or more of the capabilities or descriptors, or for other similarly arbitrary reasons.

A terminal shall transmit a mode consistent with the remote terminal's receive capabilities. As with mode requests, immediately after accepting the remote terminal's capability set, a terminal may have to open logical channels, close logical channels, transmit different content and in-band signaling on already established logical channels, or some combination thereof in order to provide an acceptable mode. A terminal should establish an acceptable mode as soon as possible. The receiving terminal shall therefore accept intermediate modes during the transition from old to new mode.
