What is iLBC?

The Internet Low Bit-Rate CODEC (iLBC) is a free speech codec originally developed by Global IP Sound and published in RFCs by the IETF.

The codec is a narrow-band speech codec operating from 13.33 and 15.2 Kbps and operating with an 8000Hz clock. The codec allows for two different frame sizes: 20ms and 30ms. Both are required by all implementations.

The specification for the codec can be found in IETF RFC 3951. The RTP packetization specification is RFC 3952.

You can read more about it in this white paper.
