Closing Channels (Q58)

The information in this article applies to: H.323, H.324, H.245

During end-of-session, in addition to closing its own channels, some endpoints request that the remote terminal close its channels via the RequestChannelClose message. This is not necessary at all. As a matter of fact, the word, "outgoing," was added to 7.6/H.324v2 specifically to address this situation: "[The initiating terminal] shall close all outgoing logical channels carrying data and audio." It's okay if a terminal sends RequestChannelClose, but we can't imagine what the benefit is, so you might as well let the remote terminal close its own channels right before it sends EndSessionCommand.
