ViDeNet is a research project that explores issues associated with
global scalability of video and voice over IP networks. It currently
provides gatekeeper interconnection, dial plan support, directory
services and operational support to several hundred universities and
research networks world wide. Increasingly, service provides are
participating in the initiative.
Internet2's Video Middleware (VidMid-VC) working group explores
issues of directory services, security, federated identity
management and other middleware 'glue' in support of video
conferencing.

The Video Development Initiative (ViDe) promotes the deployment of
digital video in research and higher education. Leveraging
collective resources and expertise, ViDe advances digital video
deployment through promotion and development of interoperable,
standardized, and cost-effective technologies.
The Megaconference is an annual event sponsored by Internet2 to host
the 'world's larget multipoint ▲videoconference.' It brings
together hundreds of individuals from around the world to share their
experiences with the technology. This festive event is also used as
a testbed and interoperability event for commercial video
conferencing solutions.
